Zamtel goes commercial with its Mobile 3G Service

Zamtel has today commercially launched its mobile broadband 3G service, a development that it’s CEO, Dr. Mupanga Mwanakatwe described as a significant milestone as the telecom giant celebrates nearly 100 years of operating communication services in Zambia. The commercial launch of the Zamtel mobile broadband 3G service comes on the back of a “soft launch” of the service, which took place on 8th February this year in which a select few customers were given the opportunity to test 3G working on the Zamtel Network.
“I’m happy that today, we have added yet another arrow in our quiver of service offerings that once again demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that our customers do indeed live life today by offering them state-of-the art services and functionality on our mobile network”.” said Dr. Mwanakatwe.

Microsoft to start operating in Zambia

MICROSOFT Corporation intends to open an office in Zambia, visiting vice-president of the world-renowned computer software manufacturing company Ali Faramawy has announced.
Mr Faramawy’s visit to Zambia comes only days after Microsoft founder Bill Gates visited the country and pledged to invest in the HIV/AIDS and malaria fight.
Mr Faramawy, an Egyptian, yesterday said having representation in Zambia would significantly help to reduce the cost of computer software which is mainly purchased from South Africa and Kenya.
And Mr Faramawy said the company is considering setting up an information communication technology (ICT) laboratory at the University of Zambia (UNZA) Great East Road campus.
Mr Faramawy said this when he addressed UNZA students during a special interactive lecture session in Lusaka yesterday.
